The digitalisation of the maritime-port sector is advancing rapidly, but one of the main challenges remains interoperability between the different actors in the ecosystem: port authorities, operators, nautical technical services, shipping companies and technology companies. In many cases, information systems continue to operate in isolation, which makes it difficult to coordinate between organisations and access to data relevant to planning and decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this context,\u00a0EDME \u2013 Spanish Maritime Data Space<\/strong>, the first data space specifically aimed at the maritime sector in Spain. It is an initiative designed to facilitate the secure, interoperable and governed exchange of information between the different actors in the maritime-port system, allowing us to move towards a more connected and efficient ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What is the Spanish Maritime Data Space<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Spanish Maritime Data Space is a sectoral data space at national level that allows information to be shared between organizations under a common framework of governance, rules and trust services. Unlike a centralized platform, EDME works as a federated data exchange environment, in which each organization maintains sovereignty over its information and decides how to share it within the data space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This approach allows port authorities, public and private operators, and other actors in the maritime ecosystem to publish, discover, and access data products in a controlled manner. Thanks to this model, it is possible to improve interoperability between heterogeneous systems and facilitate access to reliable and standardized information, helping to optimize port operations, improve maritime security, and support logistics efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Port nodes already operational<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n EDME is already in operation with port nodes deployed in different Spanish ports.\u00a0Port of Valencia, the Ports of the Balearic Islands and the Port of Barcelona<\/strong>, which act as data production and consumption points within the data space.
